Fifteen APS middle school athletes participated in L.E.A.D.’s 1st Middle School Baseball Signing Week in partnership with the APS Office of Athletics, the Atlanta Braves and the City of Atlanta Office of Recreation.  L.E.A.D. stands for Launch, Expose, Advise, Direct.  The organization behind the acronym has been a member of the Atlanta Partner for Education Program for the past three years.

Fifteen APS student athletes were awarded scholarships from the L.E.A.D. organization this week to represent their schools in L.E.A.D.’s Middle School Baseball Development League.  The organization provides the professional baseball training and development that is required to compete for scholarships at the college level.  To maintain their scholarships, the participants must maintain at least a “C” average and actively participate in the program.

So far, 100 percent of L.E.A.D.’s graduates have gone on to college, 87 percent with college baseball scholarships.  The APS schools participating in the program include B.E.S.T. Academy, Young, Kennedy, King, Parks and Sylvan Hills middle schools.
