Q and A: What is APS doing to be a part of the revamping of No Child Left Behind?

Each day this week we will post one question and answer from last week’s SNAPPS town hall meeting between superintendent Davis and members of the community.

Question: President Obama is revamping NCLB. What are you doing to be part of the planning process?

Davis’ Answer: First, let me say that the president has not called me (audience laughs).  However, I have had conversations with Arne Duncan.  He wants to help provide us with resources. He’s aware of what’s going on here and he wants to help. One area that he’s concerned about is the rigidity of the NCLB law. The one-size-fits-all approach does not work.  APS and the state have already petitioned the federal government for waivers, for more flexibility, for the ability to opt out of certain provisions of the law.  Approvals will be given first at the state level and then the local school district law.
