ATLANTA – Seven Atlanta Public Schools (APS) were named “Reward Schools” by the Georgia Department of Education this week under the state’s new accountability system for having the highest academic performance and progress.
The following APS schools made the Rewards Schools list:

- Carver Early College
- Charles Drew Charter School
- Inman Middle School
- West Manor Elementary School
- Booker T. Washington Early College
- KIPP Strive Academy Charter School
- South Atlanta School of Law and Social Justice
Booker T. Washington Early College, KIPP Strive Academy Charter School and West Manor Elementary School are new to the list this year.
Reward schools rank among the top in the state for having the highest performance or highest gains by students over the last three years. Highest performing reward schools are the top five percent of Title I schools, and highest progress reward schools are the top 10 percent of Title I schools. Schools are ranked according to their performance in all subjects on the Criterion Referenced Competency Tests, End-of-Course Tests and Georgia Alternative Assessments. Also factored into the rankings are high schools with the highest graduation or most progress in increasing the graduation rate. In addition, reward schools must demonstrate progress in closing achievement gaps between student subgroups (race, socio-economic background, students with disabilities and English language learners).
Additionally, three APS elementary schools were named “Subject Alert Schools” for the following subject areas:
- Scott Elementary School Math
- Thomasville Elementary School Math
- Usher/Collier Heights Elementary School Reading
Subject Alert Schools are identified based on the overall assessment performance of students in a particular subject that is below state average. These schools will receive the same supports provided to “Focus Schools” as identified by the Georgia Department of Education, and three years of state and/or district-level support and interventions.
