As  250 students gathered Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center to mark the school’s 67th commencement, Principal Dr. Vincent D. Murray was also honored.  It is his final year as an educator with Atlanta Public Schools after 23 years as principal of Grady High School.

Graduate Ryan Bolton welcomed family and friends with his favorite high school memories and a message about the importance of leadership.

“If you don’t stand up at the right time for what you believe in, the generations after you will not have an example…. make the choice today and lead by example,” Bolton said to his classmates.

The Grady class of 2014 honored several students for their academic achievements including one Gates Millennium Scholar, four students who received Posse scholarships and two Emory University Martin Luther King scholarship recipients.  The Grady class of 2014 collectively received over 11 million dollars in scholarships and grants.

Grady graduate Oscar Eugene Emerson Prioleau III is among several APS graduates who plan to continue their education at a service academy. Prioleau has been accepted to the ranks at the Naval Academy Prep School.  A representative from the Academy was on hand to announce his acceptance.

Dr. Murray was presented with an impressive work of art that incorporated the images of the graduates as well has quotes and signatures from his teachers and staff.

Students celebrated Saturday’s milestone with their signature message: “Whatever the challenge, whatever the obstacle, no matter who or what is against you, we will forever remain, Grady strong!”
